  • 34% of births were to single mothers, an increase from 18% in 1992
  • Heart disease is No. 1 killer, followed by cancer
  • 26% have high blood pressure
  • 67% of those with high cholesterol are treated with drugs, up from 62%
  • More than 8% are chronic drinkers (60 drinks/month)
  • 32% ages 18 to 25 are binge drinkers (5+ drinks/day)
